What are Extra Early Bloomers?
One of our favorite things is finding early flowers that tell us summer is around the corner!
This beauty, possibly “Bitsy”, was spotted at a rest stop in Florida. Whatever the exact variety, this plant is classified as an (EE) or extra early bloomer by season class. These seasons vary across the country.
Extra early bloomers are usually rebloomers, meaning they will bloom several times per season, and they tend to be shorter plants.
In all, there are 7 classifications for daylily season, and each is self-explanatory:
Extra Early (EE)
Early (E)
Early Midseason (EM)
Midseason (M)
Late Midseason (LM)
Late (L)
Very Late (VL)
In the piedmont of Catawba County, we see most extra early bloomers arrive in May with peak season for the midseason varieties the last weeks of June and early July.
In 2022, our last bloom was recorded October 17th from African Chant! While this is typically a midseason bloomer, it goes to show that you can never truly predict what mother nature has in store.
You may search our inventory by season to better plan the spread of blooms around your yard to enjoy all summer.
